At GitHub’s San Francisco headquarters, an existing atrium presented the opportunity to transform an underutilized architectural space into a meaningful expression of the company’s identity. With visibility from public space on the first floor as well as internal workspaces on the second floor, the Interior Architects design team saw this as an opportunity to create a unifying, immersive experience that could engage users across both levels.
The ambitious installation, Commit to the Future, utilizes the full vertical volume of the atrium and includes hundreds of polycarbonate pieces, arranged and layered to create a composition of GitHub’s mascot, Mona. The installation represents the millions of individual inputs that power the platform and celebrates the idea that small, individual contributions come together to create the complete system.
Working in partnership with Interior Architects, CRĒO Industrial Arts helped translate this vision into a physical installation, utilizing a thoughtful combination of material selection, precision fabrication, and architectural integration.
The installation featured hundreds of transparent, colored, and printed, precision-cut elements, along with integrated lighting that shifts throughout the day to create a dynamic presence. Each component needed to contribute to the larger composition while maintaining the spatial relationships necessary to achieve the intended visual effect.
