Estimating Specialist
Description

The Estimators’ role will support Sales, Operations and Project Management by analyzing project requirements and preparing detailed cost estimates. The Estimator will serve as a resource to the project team throughout the project with regards to scopes of work for vendors and subcontractors, and to clarify bid assumptions, methods, schedule, etc., as required.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze projects to determine estimation strategy – possible fabrication techniques, subcontracted elements, margin goals, value engineering options, etc.
  • Review bid package to ensure understanding of deadlines and special requirements (bonds, specific licenses, site restrictions).
  • Prepare requests for information that addresses any discrepancies or areas that need further clarification.
  • Contact Subcontractors and Suppliers to acquire cost information for materials and contractor services.
  • Evaluate fabrication requirements and assess cost, consulting with fabrication leads when necessary.
  • Identify elements that are similar to those fabricated in the past, and gather copies of previous pricing proposals, subcontractor quotes, and estimate sheets.
  • Document all disclaimers, exclusions and clarifications related to the bid.
Qualifications
  • Detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills
  • Understanding of fabrication processes, including:
    • Metal Fabrication
    • Electrical / Illumination
    • Graphic & Typography Processes
    • Architectural Drawings and Site Plans
    • Construction Materials & Processes
  • A reasonable level of competence with office productivity software (MS Word, Excel, Project), and familiarity with Internet tools for searches, etc.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research to identify optimal materials, sub-contractor services, processes, etc.
