Installation Supervisor

Job Summary

The Field Superintendent is responsible for successfully organizing, coordinating and supervising the installation work of both subcontractors and Company installation crews.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review the drawings, installation instructions and the overall project with the project manager and coordinate with the lead fabricators on the details for each signtype.
  • Coordinate permit submittals and field inspections, as needed, to comply with local jurisdictions.
  • Perform site surveys and obtain field verification data.  Consider site logistics; determine appropriate equipment, manpower needs and rental coordination.
  • Obtain confirmation from on-site contacts that specific sign locations and surfaces are ready for sign installation. 
  • Understand the protocol for locating signs and document the process by which the client takes responsibility for the final location and position of every signtype, whenever possible.  Work with surveyors to field locate foundations for major monument signs.
  • Account for all completed sign components, hardware, installation patterns, UL labels, lamps, permits and prepare for the specified installation methods, as well as contingency.
  • Take all necessary precautions to handle, move, transport and install finished signage in top quality condition.
  • Manage the on-site work of installation subcontractors, as needed.  Understand the subcontractor’s scope of work, ensure quality workmanship, document any conflicts that arise, and protect Company from unsubstantiated upcharges.
  • Coordinate interdependent schedule and site access logistics with the general contractor and other trades.
  • Understand Company’s contracted scope of work, recognize and notify the project manager regarding potential scope changes, obtain project manager authorization to proceed with changes, and document the additional costs to substantiate change order cost recovery.
  • Update the project manager on daily progress and maintain an installation report binder to include site plans and elevations of installed signs with dates of installation activity, installer names, comments on conditions, direction given by the client, general contractor and any discrepancies between the site and the plans.
  • Check vehicles routinely for safety and performance.  Notify the facilities manager regarding suggested maintenance whenever malfunction occurs.
  • Other duties assisting fabrication departments, as needed, when no installation activity is scheduled.

 

Requirements:

  • Education – GED or equivalent.  Proficient with mathematical calculations.
  • Training – Read architectural drawings, shop drawings, site plans, and floor plans.  Correspond sign location and orientation details, as shown in drawings, to physical reference points or benchmarks in the field
  • Experience/Skills – Five years experience installing signage (or similar) in various settings, including construction sites and open for business retail or office exterior and interior environments.
  • Schedule – Travel and work out of town job sites, overtime, weekend or night work, as site conditions dictate.
